Faith Groups
Ireland has a rich faith & spiritual history, with Christian religious sites dating back to the 6th century AD. Catch glimpses of our deeper past at the spectacular Newgrange or at any of the other sites that have been used for worship for 1000’s of years.
Hello Ireland Tours are now new members of the Faith Travel Association, based in the USA.
Our Rich Faith History
Ireland has always been a welcoming country to those of all religions, possibly stemming from the Penal times when the Catholic Church was threatened by English Rule in Ireland. We have been a refuge to those fleeing religious persecution in Europe. Religious sites dating back to the 6th century, such as the monastary of Glendalough are popluar destinations for visitors. See the early christian site at Clonmacnoise, or churches from the same era at Gallarus and the Rock of Cashel.
Even before the arrival of the more orthodox religions we have a wealth of spiritual history stemming from pagan times e.g. Loughcrew and Boa Island. There is also the local folklore of fairies and witches and of course, we are the home of Halloween!
Pilgrimages
More than one and a half pilgrims from around Ireland and the world visit the site of the Apparition of Our Lady in Knock each year.
Or perhaps follow in the footsteps of St Patrick, and celebrate services in one of Ireland’s many churches and cathedrals.
There are also many walks around the country, mainly spiritual occasions rather than one religion or another. Examples such as the Kerry Camino, held in May every year with a walk from Dingle to Tralee. Then there is ‘Reek Sunday’ where up to 20,000 people climb Croagh Patrick in Mayo on the last Sunday in July, some even climb barefoot.
We can assist with programming services, meeting with parish groups and/or spiritual leaders so that you get the most out of your pilgrimage to Ireland.
